Leading scientists, activists, comic creators and game producers unite to create a Documentary Escape Game challenging how we think about OCD.
Inspired by the comic book, She Could Fly (Berger Books/ Dark Horse), this immersive psychological game takes players on a looping adventure to explore the deeply misunderstood mental illness, OCD. Combining comic art, documentary films and interactive gameplay, the game seeks to provide wider understanding of the condition.
In this lo-fi point and click game your guide is narrator Tiger Orchid – a ‘Twitch’ style narrator who is with you all the way.
The creative team behind the game have collaborated with scientists, OCD Action and people with lived experience of OCD to inform the game design and create a global engagement campaign to shift how we think about OCD and mental health.
The game will be available on STEAM (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2679650/She_Could_Fly_Documentary_Escape_Game/) on 12th July 2024.
Led by writer/ producer Sara Kenney and Co-Producer Mairead Ruane the team have held a series of workshops over 2-years to develop the game and create a Theory of Change framework. The team have 4 x outreach goals they hope to achieve:
1. End trivialisation and increase understanding of OCD
2. Recognise and count people with OCD
3. Guarantee timely access to clinically recommended treatments
4. Fund research to understand the social determinants of OCD
She Could Fly — the groundbreaking graphic novel from the co-creator of AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire Christopher Cantwell, acclaimed Ice Cream Man artist Martín Morazzo and colorist Miroslav Mrva (Deadpool) — is a one-of-a-kind reading experience. And now the experimental graphic novel from Dark Horse Comics and Berger Books is a documentary escape game designed to challenge how we think about the deeply misunderstood mental illness, OCD.
